This Week at Mt. Olive

Good evening, fellow redeemed!

My brothers, if anyone among you wanders from the truth and someone brings him back, let him know that whoever brings back a sinner from his wandering will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.

These words from St. James are strange in our society.  Surrounded by a "minding my own business" mind set, being accountable for our neighbor's well-being is, well, strange.  Yet, this is a common theme in the New Testament.  Paul, Peter, and John all have similar exhortations.

That begs a question:  Why?  Who do good works?  All of us have heard the expression, "I'm doing it for the Lord."  Here's a wake up call:  your Lord Jesus doesn't need your good works.  Your neighbor, on the other hand, does.

So, why be accountable for our neighbor?  It's not because Jesus needs us to be that way.  Rather, it's that Jesus desires us to reflect Him and His love to one another.  In other words, Jesus desires it because it needs to be done.
